m.A.A.d.

I visited Phoenix, Arizona earlier this year to visit a friend, and on a whim we went to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art on one of the final days.

There were your standard exhibits expected at a museum, paintings, some sculptures, 3D installations, etc.

But in one room, there was an installation of m.A.A.d City, by the director of music videos of Kendrick Lamar, and this was a dual projection onto two walls, angled out.

What this amounted to was two videos playing side-by-side that were at times directly related, but also at times the two videos went in different directions.

The video was a form of music video to a compilation of Kendrick's music but also a form of documentary on Compton, where the video took place. It featured footage of Kendrick's dad during the '92 riots and cut back and forth from then to the present.

In total it was 15 minutes, and I just wanted to watch it over and over. It's definitely something I want to borrow from in future things I make. Very cool.
